A staggering increase
Asian American communities are facing an alarming and unacceptable spike in hate crimes and discrimination that has been exacerbated by the coronavirus pandemic. Fueled by false reports linking Asian people to the spread of the disease, and public political statements containing references such as the "Chinese Virus" and "Kung Flu", anti-Asian sentiment has increased exponentially nationwide.
ABC News reported a 567% increase in Asian hate crimes in San Francisco over an eighteen month period. National trends point to a 16.2% increase in physical assaults among the Asian community, many of which involved seniors being attacked from behind. These bias-motivated attacks are becoming more frequent, and Shields of Faith is dedicated in helping the communities and people affected by these vicious and traumatic events.

Shields of Faith is taking a multi-pronged approach to combatting Asian hate among individuals and communities. While we seek to lobby for more comprehensive laws and policies that meet the needs of Asian Americans, we also understand the need for immediate action. With Shields of Faith's collaborative safety programs and grassroots strategies, we seek to alter the destructive patterns that destroy diversity.
